U.S. Money Reserve has one credential that no other company in this guide can match: its president, Philip N. Diehl, was the 35th Director of the United States Mint. He ran the Mint from 1994 to 2000 and before that served as Chief of Staff to Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen.
The company is also one of the largest in the category. Over one million clients served since 2001. One of the largest private distributors of U.S. and foreign government-issued precious metals in the country. The annual IRA fee structure is one of the cleaner in the category: $250/year covering custodian, account maintenance, and storage, with first-year waivers for qualifying accounts.
Two things need to be understood before calling. The IRA custodian is not named on the website. The depository, identified through third-party reviews as A-M Global Logistics in Las Vegas, is also not named publicly. And the BBB file contains complaints, some citing high-pressure sales tactics. For a company this large, complaints are expected. The pattern is what matters. Read the recent filings before you call.

U.S. Money Reserve at a Glance
USMR’s two main differentiators from its competition are scale and credentials. One million customers is not an arbitrary figure for a company in this business. The Mint Director credential is not some made up title used for marketing purposes. Diehl served as Senate confirmed director of what could easily be described as one of the most critical parts of the U.S. monetary system for six years. He brings a specific type of expertise, which allows him to speak with authority when it comes to government issued precious metals and monetary policy regulation.
Fees should also be mentioned. Flat $250 per year for custodian and storage. In case of $50,000 account that would make it 0.5% annually. For $100,000 it would be 0.25%. Not bad for the first year considering the waiver.
The problem here is in custodian and storage. IRA custodian is not named anywhere on the website. The storage facility is clearly A-M Global Logistics from Las Vegas and could be identified via independent reviews online. However, it does not get any coverage from USMR website. Neither one mentions their precise vaulting procedures. For investors interested in researching their vault it would be problematic indeed. Find out their exact names and write them down.
Important Disclosure: Private Company, Not Government
U.S. Money Reserve is a privately owned business that does not have any affiliation with the government. The title could be misleading. The marketing campaign of the organization focuses on its connection to Mint Director very much. Philip Diehl served in the United States Government from 1994 till 2000. Since then, he has been working in the precious metals industry. His former position is his qualification. He is not connected with the government at present.
Pros & Cons
Fees and Cost Structure
The fee structure at USMR is one of the more transparent in the category:
- Annual fee: $250 flat. This covers account maintenance, custodian fees, and storage — all in one number.
- First-year fee waiver: Accounts funded with $6,000 or more qualify. Rollovers of $25,000 or more qualify. The fee is waived for that first year.
- Minimum investment: $6,000 for new accounts; $25,000 for rollovers and transfers.
The cost of $250 per year is charged uniformly irrespective of the account size. The fee amounts to 0.5% when calculated from the account size of $50,000. When calculated from the account size of $250,000, the fee would amount to 0.1%. In case of flat fees, the bigger accounts tend to be better than the percentage storage fees.

Management Team
President — Philip N. Diehl

Philip Diehl was Senate-confirmed as the 35th Director of the U.S. Mint in 1994 and served until 2000. Before that, he was Chief of Staff to Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen. His government career included launching the 50 State Quarters program, which became one of the most successful numismatic programs in U.S. history. Since leaving government, he has worked in the private precious metals industry. He has testified before Congress on monetary policy and precious metals regulation.
Products Available
USMR provides the precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum for IRA, while palladium is for outright purchase. Its site has been modified to date April 30, 2026, and its inventory includes a variety of IRA-approved metals as well as collectible coins.
Noble Gold Is Our #1 Pick for 2026
U.S. Money Reserve brings genuine government credentials, a large client base, and a $250 flat annual fee. The gaps are the unnamed IRA custodian on the website and limited storage detail. Noble Gold Investments is more transparent on both. Their free guide takes minutes.
Who U.S. Money Reserve Is Best Suited For
Worth a Closer Look If You Are:
- An investor for whom the Mint Director credential carries real weight — Diehl’s government background is verifiable and specific to the products USMR sells
- Someone rolling over $25,000 or more and who wants the first-year fee waived
- An investor who wants a flat $250 annual fee that covers custodian and storage in one predictable number
- Someone who wants a dedicated account executive assigned to their relationship rather than a call center
- An investor who values educational resources: investment kits, special reports, IRA calculators, and video content
Consider Alternatives If You Are:
- Expecting the custodian and depository to be named publicly before making contact
- Concerned about the sales practice complaints in the BBB file — read those filings before calling
- Starting with less than $6,000 for a new account or less than $25,000 for a rollover
- Looking for palladium as an IRA metal specifically — confirm current eligibility before assuming

Final Verdict
U.S. Money Reserve is a reputable and established company in the precious metals industry. The experience of the director as the 35th Mint Director in a particular industry is an actual point. The $250 flat annual fee sounds like reasonable. The first-year waiver for qualified clients is an actual offer. The customer base consisting of over one million people is an actual statistic. A+ BBB rating received in February 2026 is an actual point.
The custodian’s name, information about how many coins are stored on premises is not an actual point. An actual existence of BBB complaints also should be taken into account. It is quite normal for a company of this scale to have some complaints. The most important thing is the content of the complaints. Check the recent BBB complaints before making a call.
To evaluate U.S. Money Reserve: make a call, learn which custodian will take care of your money, make sure that your money will be stored according to a certain way at A-M Global Logistics, confirm $250 annual fee by letter, and make sure to check Noble Gold Investments against this company.
U.S. Money Reserve is a precious metals investment firm. In addition, the company will also assist clients in establishing Precious Metals IRAs with its simple three-step process. It offers gold, silver, and platinum bullion products. No palladium is available at this time. The company does not appear to have partnered with a specific IRA company for custodial services. Likewise, there is no partnered depository for storage options.
