American Bullion has been serving precious metals IRA clients since 2009. The company is currently running a promotion offering individuals no annual fees for the first year. While it does require a higher minimum investment than most IRA competitors ($50,000), American Bullion is gaining market share among investors because of its commitment to customer service and a wide variety of precious metals offerings.
Pros:
- Offers European coins
- Offers gold, silver, platinum and palladium
- .U.S. Mint listed dealer
Cons:
- Slower delivery times
After reading this review about American Bullion, investors are going to realize something: that, more than anything, the company wants to make a positive impact on investors’ lives.
For example, one of the first things you should know about American Bullion is that investors don’t have to pay fees for a full year. Although the minimum investment requirement is relatively high at $50,000, those that have been saving for retirement for a fair number of years can easily switch over and benefit from no fees.
Even though that’s a great way to introduce new customers to a precious metals IRA brand, there are other reasons to choose American Bullion over the competition. For one, investors can put their money into precious metals located outside North America. That’s a bonus. Most companies don’t do that. That’s not to say that American Bullion will store your gold for you in other places around the world. They leave that up to you. But at the very least if you as an investor choose to do that, you can at least choose from precious metals offerings located in that country and they can help you out with that.
That’s not to say that everything that glitters that American Bullion is gold. It frankly doesn’t rank as well as other IRA providers in terms of customer reviews and those looking to get gold or other precious metals delivered directly to their door to make home storage easier might have to wait a while.

The Founder and Management Team at American Bullion
After perusing the American Bullion website, admittedly there isn’t a lot of information about the founders or the staff to be found. The website leads to a landing page where you can enter your details to get an information kit, and as you scroll down there is a section that offers a video sales letter that explains the features, benefits, and advantages of using American Bullion over other IRA providers.
Still, the team at Sophisticated Investor managed to do some digging and find a little bit of information about the staff.
Nevtan Akcora is the founder and CEO of American Bullion.
Nevtan Akcora, CEO, American Bullion
He’s held the position for more than a decade. Prior to joining American Bullion, Akcora was the President and COO of Onstar Worldwide. He clearly possesses the experience necessary to scale a business and reach a large number of customers. Akcora has also held senior executive roles at more than one large financial company.
Erman Ebren is the Director of Marketing at American Bullion.
Erman Ebren, Director of Marketing, American Bullion
He holds an extensive background in digital marketing and, like Akcora, has spent nearly 10 years with the company in different digital marketing-related positions. Ebren started his career as a systems engineer at Siemens.
Akcora and Ebren lead a list of 18 employees featured under the American Bullion umbrella. Unfortunately, even with all the digging we’ve done, we were unable to find more executives. Yet still, American Bullion does rank among the top precious metals IRA companies in America.
Now let’s move on to discussing the organization’s fees and pricing structure.
American Bullion Fees and Pricing
American Bullion charges $90 in annual fees for accounts worth less than $100,000. In total including setup fees, regardless of a client’s balance, the fees can reach up to $290 per year. That’s slightly more than precious metals IRA providers like Noble Gold, Goldco, or Advantage Gold.
However, American Bullion offsets that little bit extra in fees with a special promotion that many investors will be able to take advantage of. That promotion is a zero-dollar annual fee on storage costs and administrative costs for the first year. This is a great promotion and a great way for American Bullion to get clients to commit to working with the organization and get started as soon as possible. It’s a fantastic promotion that no other IRA company is offering right now.
That being said, one of the reasons American Bullion is offering the promotion is because the organization is working hard to prop up its brand and compete with other precious metals IRA providers that have a better reputation. The promotion undoubtedly goes a long way in helping that, but we still didn’t rank it number one. Nevertheless, take a look at a brief summary of the fees in the chart below.
Fee Type | Account Value | Fee Amount |
---|---|---|
Annual Fee | Under $100k | $75 |
Annual Fee | Over $100k | $150 |
Maximum Fee including Storoge Fee | Under $100k | $290 |
Maximum Fee including Storoge Fee | Over $100k | $290 |
American Bullion Storage Information
Delaware Depository and STRATA are the two storage options/custodians that American Bullion prefers to use. Given that the fees are reasonable and customers can get started with a zero-dollar promotion for the first year, it makes sense to give American Bullion the opportunity to store your gold or other precious metals.
However, just because the company is willing to take a loss upfront to acquire new customers, doesn’t mean you don’t have other options within American Bullion. Clients can also opt to store their gold at home. One of the top complaints about American Bullion is that it does take a while for the company to deliver precious metals to your door. At the end of the day, investors who are dead serious about hedging against other forms of investing or hedging against any potential government confiscation of precious metals, which has happened many times throughout history, might feel more comfortable knowing that the precious metals their storing are within reach inside their own home.
It’s perfectly acceptable to view things that way and opt to keep your precious metals under your own roof, just know that there is a trade-off and you might have to wait a while.
American Bullion Customer Reviews
There’s just no doubt about it, the competition for positive customer reviews in the precious metals IRA space is fierce. In other industries, customer reviews simply aren’t worth as much money as they are to organizations that hold on to your retirement investment. Think about it. As long as these companies do a good job, they might end up holding on to your gold or other precious metals for 30 or 40 years. To say the least there’s a lot of incentive for dealers to do a good job for you. American Bullion recognizes this and is very competitive on different review sites.
The company used to rate an A+ on the Better Business Bureau website, but we can no longer link to it because the Better Business Bureau profile of American Bullion no longer exists. That said there are still plenty of other platforms that display reviews.
One of those sites is TrustLink. American Bullion has a perfect customer rating on that website with 42 customers providing rave reviews about how great the company really is. It’s perhaps the best example of American Bullion’s online reputation.
Another great example is the rating American Bullion receives through the Business Consumer Alliance. An AAA rating is the highest the company can get an American Bullion achieves that. That being said, the rating at BCA is based only on eight reviews. There is definitely room for American Bullion to grow here.
Of all the review sites that list a profile for American Bullion, Trust Pilot arguably carries the most weight because it has the most reviews. No fewer than 190 customers have rated American Bullion 4.4 out of five stars.

American Bullion’s List of Assets
Just like the competition, American Bullion offers gold, silver, platinum and palladium in the form of bars and coins to customers. But unlike the competition, American Bullion also allows investors to choose from coins and bars offered in Europe and around the world. Some companies offer Canadian coins to Canadian customers, but very few precious metals IRA providers will go outside of North America.
Immigrant Americans looking to store gold from their home countries might like this feature, but at the end of the day a gold bar or gold coin is worth the same as long as it weighs the same amount and is in mint condition, so overall the country that it’s from shouldn’t really make a difference in the long run. This feature is more of a nice-to-have feature that other IRA companies don’t usually offer. It’s a point of difference, and a nice little bonus.
American Bullion: Frequently Asked Questions
Now that you’ve had the chance to go over American Bullion’s offerings and learn a little bit more about the executive team in the way the company is run, take a look at some of the answers below to some of the most frequently asked questions about the organization.
What Are Precious Metals?
Most people think about gold when they hear the term precious metals, but precious metals don’t just mean gold. It includes silver, platinum, and palladium.
What is American Bullion?
American Bullion is in the business of selling precious metals and helping retirement investors retire early using those investment vehicles. The company is based in Los Angeles, California and has been doing business since 2009.
Can I Store American Bullion Products at Home?
American Bullion does indeed deliver precious metals to people’s homes. They can deliver not only North American coins and bars, but also coins from Europe and around the world. We’ve mentioned in the sections above the delivery of those precious metals can be slow, but yes, American Bullion does deliver straight to your door!
Are American Bullion Coins Graded and Certified?
Yes! Properly grading and certifying gold is par for the course regardless of which IRA provider you choose. At the end of the day, people choosing to buy precious metals for retirement need to know that the value of those metals are genuine and true. Investors will be able to take this for granted no matter which IRA provider they choose.
What is American Bullion’s Minimum Investment Amount?
American Bullion requires a minimum investment of $50,000 in order to get started. That’s certainly higher than most IRA companies but it’s part of the reason they are able to allow investors to come over to American Bullion without paying an annual fee for the first year. They are counting on higher value clients to get started with them and stick with them in the long term. It makes good business sense but it might put American Bullion out of reach for some younger retirement investors.
Where is American Bullion Headquarters?
American Bullion’s head office is located in Los Angeles, California. Most American precious metals IRA providers actually host their head office in California. American Bullion has been in business with the head office there since 2009.
Can I Set Up an LLC With American Bullion?
The IRS doesn’t like the idea of investors using IRA accounts under the umbrella of a corporation. Doing this is certainly frowned upon, but investors should know that it’s actually not illegal to do so. Still traditional precious metals IRA companies don’t exactly specialize in setting this up for you. Investors really interested in doing retirement investing under the name of a Limited Liability Corporation would be better off doing so with a self-directed IRA company.
Should You Choose American Bullion for Your Precious Metals IRA?
American Bullion certainly has to be among the top precious metals IRA providers in America when it comes to fees, just for the simple fact that investors can get involved without paying any fees in the first year. That’s a pretty remarkable promotion to offer to get the ball rolling with customers.
Another big plus for American Bullion is the fact that investors can choose to put their money into precious metals circulating outside of North America. Investing in metals from Europe and around the world is something that is appealing to many precious metals enthusiasts. Bonus points for those enthusiasts if they choose to go the extra mile and work with a custodian of their choosing outside of North America as well.
It should be noted however that American Bullion doesn’t store gold for clients outside of North America. American Bullion’s preferred custodians are located in Delaware.
One other thing to watch out for is the fact that while American Bullion does maintain positive reviews on most websites, some customer reviews leave more to be desired. We do have to rank other companies in front of American Bullion because of that, but that’s not to say that working with American Bullion is a bad option. It’s a great option run by individuals focused on making American Bullion become one of the leading precious metals IRA companies available to you.
Overall, we recommend choosing American Bullion. But it’s also important to take a look at other reviews and weigh American Bullion against the competition.
We welcome you to take a look at the charts at the top of this page and at the bottom to learn more and get a quick summary of the top firms in the industry.
